What is Pink Fish Backup?
It is essentially an online, automated offsite backup service. It provides peace of mind that backups aren't forgotten and is hassle-free because it is fully automated. Once the service is set up, nothing needs to be done again! And because it is an automated offsite backup service, Pink Fish Backup protects vital data against theft, fire and flood.
How does Pink Fish Backup work?
The backup software can run on either a PC or a server, it works just as well on both. 
After the software is installed, files that need to be backed up regularly are selected in a 'backup schedule' and a time is chosen for when backups need to be performed. Once files have been chosen the first time, all backups are automatic in future and no files need to be selected again unless new folders or files need to be added to the backup schedule.
Different 'backup schedules' can be used for different data if needs be, for example if you would like to backup accounts data at a different time to users data, this can easily be done separately.
Because backups are taken of new files and changes to existing files, after the initial large backup of data is done, future backups are very quick as only new files and file changes need to be backed up.
Once backup files and times are chosen, all that is required is for the PC or server to be on and connected to the internet so that at the time chosen, data can automatically be backed up. Once the backup time is reached, any new or changed data is automatically recognised, copied, compressed, encrypted and sent off to our servers for safe keeping.
Data is compressed before it is backed up from your computers or servers to our secure servers. Different data compresses by different amounts but typical data can be compressed by up to 99%. ie to just 1% of the original file sizes, so you are actually using far less space on our servers than on your computer/server, and backups are much quicker too!
All data remains compressed and encrypted until it is retrieved again. Data can only be retrieved by the username and encryption key holder.

If you have massive amounts of data, we can come and do your first backup onsite at LAN speed and transfer your data immediately and directly to our servers in our data centres. This avoids the long wait when doing a very large initial backup over a standard internet connection. Future backups are of new data and changes to existing data so are much faster!
Likewise, if you are in the position of needing to do a full system restore, we can deliver your data to you directly from our servers on an external hard drive, where you can then decrypt and restore your data immediately, again at LAN speed.
This form of recovering your data is an option for if a full restore of large amounts of data is needed quickly. The flexibility of our service allows the restoring of data to be done by you at any time at no extra cost. If a single file or multiple folders need to be restored at any time, this can be done at the click of a button. It is simply a case of selecting the file(s) that need to be retrieved and clicking 'restore now'.
The ability to recover any data at anytime so easily means our service saves both time and money that could be wasted redoing work if files are accidentally lost or changed when they shouldn't have been. The fact that our service provides offsite backup protects you against loss of data in a fire or flood.
Backup for laptops
Pink Fish's automated offsite backup service is suitable for single PC or laptop users through to huge corporations with multiple servers. The software can do as much or as little as you want, from single daily backups to multiple backups of different data at different times, it can even turn off your computer when it's finished backing up at the end of the day.
SQL Backup
Pink Fish's automated offsite backup service can be used on SQL servers just as easily as on a PC or non SQL server. If an SQL database needs to be open 24/7 we can provide a plug-in which enables backups to be done whilst data is open. (Please see Pricing for SQL plug-in) Otherwise, if data can be closed, for example overnight, backups can be performed without the plug-in.
Restoring Data
Data can be restored at just the click of a 'restore' button. Simply select the date from which you want to recover work, find the file(s) or folder(s) you want to retrieve and click 'restore'. You can then choose where to save your restored file to. It's as simple as that.
Pink Fish's automated offsite backup is useful not just for restoring entire computer's or server's data, but single files that may have accidentally been deleted or changed when they shouldn't have been. Data can be restored by the user immediately.
