How often can I do backups?
As often as you like! The software lets you schedule backups as often as every hour of every day if you like. Some people like to do a backup at the end of the day, others prefer to have multiple backups with seperate schedules for users data and accounts data etc. The system can be as flexible or simple as you want it to be but without ever being complicated.
As well as scheduled backups, you can also do a 'backup now' outside of set backup times. E.G. If you have just finished a large piece of work but the backup schedule was an hour ago, you can choose to 'backup now' so you don't have to wait until the next schedule to backup that work.
How much does it cost?
How much the service costs depends on how much data you have and what your data consists off. Our prices are based on how much compressed data you store on our servers each month. There is a one off license fee of £120 per computer or server for the backup software, and then the monthly cost of storing your data on our servers. Most data compresses extremely well, the exceptions are images and music files which don't compress as well, but if you feel these take up too much space you can choose not to include them in backup schedules.
We offer a 2 WEEK FREE TRIAL of our service, which is the best way to see how much the service is going to cost you because you can see exactly how much your data will compress.
For our full price list please see our 'Pricing' page.
How can I sign up?
If you visit the 'Contact Us' page of the site and send us your details, we can contact you to answer any queries you may have first, or send you the backup software to install straight away. You are welcome to test the service FREE for 2 WEEKS to see if it suits your needs before you sign up.
Can I use Pink Fish Backup on Macs?
No, at least not directly. Our backup software is currently only Windows compatible, although if you have multiple Mac's, they can be networked to a Windows server which can be used to store your data, and then Pink Fish Backup can backup your data from the server.
What are the system requirements?
Our backup software is Windows based, and currently requires:
Please do not worry if you aren't sure if you have all these, use the 'Contact Us' page and we can help you.
How do I get my data back?
If you accidentally delete work, you can retrieve it by selecting the file you want back and clicking the 'restore' button. The file(s) will then be recovered immediately.
If in the worse case scenario a server/computer crashes/is stolen etc, we can send you the software to install on a new server/computer and when you enter your username and encryption key you can then access all your data to retrieve it.
If you are in the situation where all data is lost off a computer or server and would rather not download it all from our servers, we can offer to deliver your data directly from our servers onto an external hard drive and deliver it to your door to help you get back on track again asap.
Are there any extra costs?
The only costs are the software fee (£120 per computer or server) and the monthly cost for the amount of data you backup to our servers. For our full price list please see our 'Pricing' page.
From how long ago can I get my data back?
We hold revisions of files for 30 days as default. This doesn't mean we only hold your data for 30 days, it means that if you change a file, each change is kept for 30 days before the most recent change is stored. e.g. if you added words to a word file everyday for 30 days, you would have 30 versions to go back to. This means that if you make a change that you shouldn't have, or DELETE a file (because a deletion is also classed as a change) you have 30 days to recover that file(s).
Your ongoing data is stored for as long as you maintain the service.
What happens if I forget my username or password?
DON'T!!!
If you forget your encryption key your data will be left to float around in cyberspace probably for eternity!
If you are worried you may forget your encryption key, ask your accountant or solicitor to hold a copy!
Security
How secure is my data?
All data is compressed and encrypted before it leaves your computer. We use Blowfish 448bit encryption to keep your data protected. As a comparison, online banking only uses 128bit encryption. It is said that it would take more than the power of the sun, or 1 million computers 1 million years to try to decrypt your data!
After your data has been compressed and encrypted, it is sent to our servers for safe keeping. All data is stored on a primary and a secondary server in our data centres, remaining encrypted at all times.
Who can retrieve my data?
Only the encryption key holder can retrieve and view the data that has been backed up (you).
Privacy
Can you look at my data?
All data is encrypted before it leaves your computer using Blowfish 448bit encryption. As a comparison, it is said that it would take more than the power of the sun, or 1 million computers 1million years to go through every possible encryption key to decrypt your data! Secure backup logs on our secure servers are password protected, these logs contain file names but NO FILES CAN BE OPENED OR VIEWED OR DECRYPTED by anyone other than the encryption key holder (you). If you have any worries or queries about privacy or security, please contact us using the 'Contact Us' page, we are always happy to answer any questions.
